The Nursery Remodel

The full remodel of our baby's nursery took a lot of blood, sweat and tears but it was well worth the 6 month wait. Being pregnant and nesting, all I wanted was our nursery to be done. But it wouldn't be done until she was two months old. Which was okay since we planned to keep her in a bassinet for the first few months anyway (so we thought...). #babygirlnursery , #nurseryremodel , #chandelette, #dollhousebookcase

After

I loved the idea of a house shaped bookshelf that we could turn into a little dollhouse when she gets older. I found this one at Babies R Us after a very long online search. I also wanted a chandelier in her bedroom for an ultra feminine touch. I found this one at Target for $50.

Having a girl, a bow display is a must. I found this at Homegoods and it was a jewelry holder but I made it into a bow/ headband rack.

I ran into a problem with the wall decals. They would not stick to the coral wall paint for some reason. So, I had to trace them onto the wall and then paint them with gold acrylic paint. That was a little complicated being that the letters were thin. But, I loved the idea for above her crib, so I made do.

I made the floral mobile and the letter "L" myself, although you can find them on Etsy for around $80. I ended up spending that much anyway after the fancy flowers and all the supplies. But, it was fun and she still loves watching her floral mobile spin.

Before

Patience is something that I've struggled with in recent years. Expecting a baby and having no bedroom for her was very challenging.

My husband is a general contractor and the results of his work are amazing. It took about 6 months for him to do the nursery remodel. The most time consuming project in the nursery was smoothing out the walls. They had been textured from when he was a bachelor. He started the remodel when I was around 5 months pregnant. He had just finished our master bedroom and there was no time for a break. The crazy pregnant wife wanted it done as soon as possible!

3 cribs later

Once the nursery was finally finished, we ran into a new problem. The crib we were planning to use was a used crib that my mom had chalk painted white. After many hours of her painting I figured I would put the sealant on it. Well it ended up drying in globs and we couldn't put the baby in a globby crib that she could pick off. So, we bought a new crib on Amazon. Hamilton Bay was the brand. It had great reviews. The problem was that it was off gassing horribly. This delayed putting the baby in her nursery for another 4 months! Yes, the crib still smelled of horrible chemical after 4 months and luckily we were able to return it. We bought a nicer one at Babies R Us and spent more money just so this one wouldn't smell as well. Sure enough, it did smell! So bad that it gave me a headache! We let it sit for another few months until we decided we've had it! We went back to the first globby crib so that our 8 month old could have a safe place to sleep in her own bedroom. We kept the other crib but we are letting it off gas in the basement until the next baby comes around. Has anyone else had this smell problem?

In conclusion, our 9 month old finally had her nursery to sleep in. I was a bit worried she would have a hard time transitioning to her own room after being in ours for 8 months, but it was smooth sailing. She is such a good sleeper. I think I'll be in for it with the next baby.

She loves her bookshelf!
